RECYCLED ASPHALT SECTION - IT"S NOT DONE! SURFACE NEEDS TO HARDEN so we need to drive slowly.
On May 15, 2024, the recycled asphalt was installed by Bear Creek Asphalt Paving on the first 1/2 mile of Alderwood. It looks great and is nice to drive on, but if we don’t give it a chance to cure, we’ll be back where we started with the potholes. Please spread the word with your guests and family members to drive extra slow until the surface hardens. The surface needs about 3 months of warm weather to create a more impervious layer. During that time, we need to drive slowly so as not to spin around the material or create lumps, ripples or cracks. If we can keep it as smooth as possible it will be a better surface once it hardens and will provide better drainage for the rain water to minimize future potholes. This was a substantial investment compared to past efforts so the longer we can make it last the more we can extend our future resources to improving other sections. PLEASE DRIVE EXTRA SLOW (10 MPH) at least until about mid August. Also please share your feedback with the board. We need input from the community to determine if and how much we want to continue to invest in this type of road surface material. Although this contract was executed by the current board, we relied on information and bid work from both current and past board members. Please remember that these are all volunteer positions so whether you agree or disagree with individual topics, please be respectful to your neighbors who have been willing to commit their free time for the betterment of our community.
Update as of 6-14-2024: PUD and their contractor (Asplund) have completed clearing the vegetation. However the sides of the road where the vegetation is clear are very soft dirt. People should stay on the graveled part when driving for your safety.
Update as of 5-23-2024: Our Board President is in contact with PUD regarding their repair work. They were planning to start in mid May but the work has been pushed out to after Memorial Day due to more something more urgent that came up. However Asplund will be on site working first and then PUD. PUD has contacted the neighbors in the vicinity. PUD will work from the end back to where TP joins Underline. It is expected to be a long and drawn out project and there will be delays where they have to trench across the road. Once they get to the section where we need to install a culvert, we will put in our pipe that we already purchased. That could be about 3 weeks out.
The current Board established several committees to split up the work to focus on items of interest to the community. One of those is the Road Committee. It is chaired by our Vice President, Mark Case. Community members are welcome to join any of the committees. Send an email to the Board email or reach out to Mark if you would like to join. The committee will help with getting bids, reviewing bids, assessing roads to see if they need work, etc. This is not a roadwork crew and doesn't require you to be out on the road working. However, the Road Committee may help with organizing work parties or making recommendations in that regard. Thanks to those who are helping and to the many who have helped on the roads in the past!
